Adult day centers for older adults

Places where your loved one spends the day with activities, meals and care, then goes home to sleep, according to state licensing records.

What an adult day center is

An adult day center welcomes older adults during the day, usually Monday through Friday. There are two main types: social centers (activities, meals, companionship and supervision) and adult day health care centers, which add nursing and therapy. In many states, Medicaid pays for adult day health care for people who qualify: for example, Medi-Cal’s CBAS program in California, DAHS in Texas or the Adult Day Health Care Programs in New York.

It’s a good option when the family works during the day or needs a break, and the person can keep living at home.
